In such times the victim faces financial disturbances because of several reasons. Victims are disturbed and cannot continue to their work sometimes for months. They have also been laid off from job for taking long leaves to solve their legal, emotional and sometimes medical issues. We offer immediate finance support to these victims upon review of their financial situations.
We believe that in rape cases, victims may suffer from problematic symptoms like lack of appetite, loss of weight, insomnia, nightmares, insecurity, depression and other behavioral and personality disorders. In all such cases, the much needed healing touch that can be provided only through counseling. Counseling services provided to the victims and their family members help them cope with their crisis situations and remain socially functional. Professionally qualified counselors conduct free of cost counseling sessions at Nirbhaya and make periodic home visits to intervene both at family and community levels. In case the victim suffers from any serious psychological / personality disorder, he / she are referred to a clinical psychologist or a psychiatrist in a government hospital or a private clinic.
3. Legal Advice
We have observed that insensitive handling at police stations, humiliating cross-examinations, cumbersome court trials and corruption at various levels add to the woes of crime victims. This often results in a situation where victims and their guardians lose interest in the case. It may be a difficult decision for the victims to report the matter to the police and you may wish to get specialist advice before making a decision. Any victim of crime in need of help can approach Nirbhaya Jyoti Trust. We make sure that we guide you through the legal process and help you get the justice. We provide to victims these inputs in collaboration with other organizations which specialize in such services. If required we also takes up needy and appropriate cases with concerned senior police officials, public prosecutors and judicial authorities to remove bottlenecks and impediments in investigation and trial of the case. However Nirbhaya Trust takes care and make sure that we adopt a persuasive approach instead of confronting and antagonizing the authorities.
4. Spread Awareness
In order to curb any nuisance, the best way is to educate the society about it. In case of violence against women it is very crucial to bring awareness amongst the people. Our Trust understands that ‘Prevention is better than cure’ therefore we conduct open panel discussions wherein anyone can come and be the part. In such discussions we make sure that we understand the mindset of the people and accordingly counsel them. Also we understand that there are people in our country who are deprived of education and needs special attention and we make sure that we target such places too. Our volunteers visits the slum areas so that we can help the society change their mindset towards the violence against women and take the responsibility to make our country a safe place to live in for all the genders in the society.
